Disgraced Christian Rock Singer Claims Most Religious Bands are Atheists

You can find the story here and I’ll sum it up for you.

The front man for As I Lay Dying, a Christian rock band I never heard of until I read that very article, has been convicted for conspiring to kill his wife.

I’m presently incarcerated. Convicted of a crime I didn’t even commit! Attempted murder, now honestly, what is that? Do they give a Nobel Prize for attempted chemistry? Do they?

Reactions to a Creationist “Argument”

Did any of you guys enjoy watching Cosmos? You should have because it was awesome.

When it comes to science it’s inevitable that a bunch of crazy people are going disagree with anything that suggests the bible isn’t to be taken literally.

As I’ve said many times before, I’m against ridiculing people who choose to adopt certain aspects of religious philosophy. I don’t consider the people who take religious stories literally to be truly religious. They’re arrogant, ignorant, brainwashed, and deluded, but they’re certainly not religious. You can’t follow a philosophy unless you have a true understanding of it, and if you obstinately deny logical arguments backed by evidence you can’t say you understand anything.

That said I’m here today to take a look at a creationist argument and scream “WHAT THE FUCK” at the top of my lungs, so this should be fun for everyone.

A Gross Conversation and Thoughts on Feminism

I’ve wanted to write on this topic for a long time, but I always stop myself. My mind goes back and forth on where I should stand, it’s a tricky issue. The term “feminism” is so varied now that using it means something different to everyone. I’ve kept my mouth shut to avoid saying something stupid or that I may change my mind on later, but I think the time has come to take a stand. I was recently involved in a very… unpleasant situation and coming out of it I knew it was time to get my thoughts in writing to ensure that I could better articulate my feelings on the matter.

In any case, I’ll never learn if I stay silent.

Southern Atheists Unite!

This is a pretty cool idea if it can be pulled off.

godless in dixie

super_skeptic_Dixie_picI could use your help with something.  David Silverman over at American Atheists has announced that next year’s big national convention will be held in Memphis, TN, which is Deep South territory.  But I’m discovering that getting the word out to groups of skeptics around this region is really difficult!  For one thing, “freethinkers” don’t care much for joining groups, and even after they start one, they aren’t big into networking with other groups.  Too independent, I guess.  In any given large city like Atlanta, there may be a dozen atheist/secularist groups but they don’t always communicate with each other except when members who belong to more than one group intentionally pass things along.  Then to make matters more difficult, many atheist groups in the Bible Belt are completely “secret,” which means they’re not even “searchable” on Google or in Facebook.  You would have to know somebody already in the…

Discovery of Mega Earth

Have you heard the news yet?

Mega Earth

Scientists found a new type of planet they didn’t even think could exist before. This is fucking exciting. There’s a lot of talk about life that may have existed here before, but I’m not so interested in that. Hell, I’m dreading the day we find alien life- that’s going to be a big hassle.

What’s exciting to me is that this is another step towards the eventual colonization of space. Not this planet, and not for a long, long time, but this is a great morale boost. It’s further hope for more planets far bigger than Earth that can sustain humankind. The only way we’re going to stop the decay of the universe is to go out to it and start growing.

It also proves that rocky planets formed a lot earlier than scientists thought. Perhaps we’re on the verge of learning something new about the creation of the universe. Now wouldn’t that be interesting?

How I Became A Humanist

After many years as an agnostic my interests in worldly affairs had wavered. This was not a result of agnosticism, it was the product of every philosophy I had indoctrinated myself with since childhood.

As a Catholic I believed I would die, go to Heaven, and eventually god would destroy the Earth, so who cares what happens here.

As an atheist I believed I would die, rot in the ground, and the universe would eventually come to an end, so who cares what happens here.

As an agnostic I didn’t believe in anything and thought “who cares?”
